Our History

Since 1978, Heritage Homes has served the Great Plains as a leader in System Built Modular Homes. Building everything from award-winning, multifamily, multi-million-dollar apartments for entrepreneurs in heavily populated cities, to forever homes for families in rural America who are unable to find a local builder. They are able to take on custom designs and projects without concern. Centrally located in Wayne, Nebraska, they’ve proudly been designing and building single and multi-family custom homes for people in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Missouri for over four decades.

Rod Tompkins continues to serve as CEO at the young age of 80 years and carries the same belief he did almost 45 years earlier when he started the company, “it’s not only the product we build but the way we do business that differentiates us from all the others.” His son, Dana took over acting as President in 2019 and continues to grow that same customer centered mindset.

Our System

For years many people believed “modular home” to be a negative term when in reality, a Heritage Home has always been built to the International Building Code (IRC) just as any site-built home is required to be, and since they are regulated far more than a site builder would be – they actually may exceed some of those standards. Mobile or manufactured homes are built only to the HUD codes.

Building the majority of the home in their facility before placing it on a basement or crawlspace foundation on your land guarantees that they produce homes built with maximum efficiency, without weather delays, and with minimum errors. Every modular home is built using skilled craftsmen that specialize in their unique trade and who take pride in their work. Over the last 4 Plus decades, the family-owned, and operated home builder has been endlessly working to offer its customers a more enjoyable, and hassle-free build process.

Heritage is continuously growing a network of authorized builders and a list of preferred contractors, crane services, and set crews. Local builders are able to take advantage of pre-designed plans, increased leads, in-house engineering, and a shortened build time by partnering with Heritage Homes. They can also sell directly to homeowners – saving big dollars for someone who has construction experience and can put in some sweat equity or for those who want to find and use their own general contractor!

Heritage Homes offers several different styles from the basic ranch, to elaborate two-story, prow, loft, and cape cod style homes. Since all of their homes are custom-built, the specifications and design features the customer selects will determine the final investment. Heritage will work with you and your local builders or contractors to design the home specifically built to the needs and desires of the customer. When designing a new Heritage Home, the choices are limited only by your imagination.

You can be rest assured knowing that your new Heritage Home is covered by a limited one-year workmanship warranty. Each Heritage Home features a ten-year structural warranty from R.W.C. (Residential Warranty Corporation), an independent third-party administrator.

See for yourself the quality of Heritage Homes by taking a private tour of the facility and model homes! Tours are available Monday through Friday 9 AM to 4 PM.
